[Another how-to! But I couldn't find a detailed one elsewhere.]

It’s really no wonder that BSNL doesn’t make a rupee in profit. When your customer, since 25-plus years, lodges repeated complaints of a non-functional connection and you don’t do a thing about it, there’s no way you’re going to retain that customer. There’s no way you’re going to earn revenue when you treat loyal customers this way. I tried really hard to get my BSNL broadband service working though the lineman blamed everything starting from the exchange right up to the modem! At one point, he wanted me to take the day off, take the modem to the local exchange and have it checked-out! After 6-months of suffering, it had to end. If you too are suffering, here’s how you can end it.

How to surrender and close your BSNL Landline/Broadband Connection.

  • Take a photocopy of your latest telephone bill. It’s a good idea to already have paid the latest bill.

  • Staple the three documents together and hand them over at the local BSNL Customer Service Center (if you can find anyone at work!).

  • You’ll be made to run around to get information such as the amount of security deposit and outstanding dues (that’s why it’s a good idea to pay the latest bill a few days before you visit the office).

  • You’ll then be given an acknowledgement. Retain this till everything’s done with.

  • Finally, if you still have the energy and if you’re interested in saving Rs 220, take this acknowledgement along with your telephone instrument (any instrument will do) to your exchange and surrender the instrument. If you choose not to, then Rs 220 will be deducted from the final settlement (which I believe will be posted as a check to your mailing address).

That’s about it. As for me, I had Airtel come in and install a landline and broadband connection. It simply works!

That afternoon, an officer from BSNL called and told me that I should have complained to them in person and that they would have sorted things out. How’s that?

I dropped my 15 years old BSNL connection due to incompetency of BSNL Officials, top to bottom. They only like to talk over phone and never replies by mail, as their incompetence is proved. They all respond that they are from BSNL. (from CGM to lineman, but identity is not known). They officers are not interested in rectifying the deficiency in services. They work just noting the complaint telephone number and making a call to lower office (i.e.CGM to GM to Dy.GM. to DE to AE to JE to lineman).
When they contact the customer they are not bothered about how many days the fault persists. They will only ask whether it is working now. If time is the criteria for customer, I recommend disconnecting the line rather than wasting any more time with BSNL.

I too had a similar experience with BSNL Chennai Telephones.
Latest I am quoting I reeived a call on 17th June, 2013 from 04426613078
saying the person is calling from BSNL. She does not discuss any subject.
First of all first call got disconnected without talking. Next call came again.
As I suspected, I tried to find out the address from BSNL Chennai Telephones as well as from http://www.phunwa.com.
The reply is no such telephone exists.
What caller wants to convey and Chennai Telephones identity is not known?
Others can also try whether they can get any details on tel no.26613078. Whatelse Chennai Telephones can have their called numbers cannot be reached? This is efficiency and customer services of a state owned organisation.

Thanks a lot. God Bless You. I was literally running from Pillar to Post for these despite having surrendered one as long back as 2008!

save your time July 2, 2013 at 5:25 PM

instead you can also log on to selfcare.ndc.bsnl.co.in and submit a closure request.

Subrahmanyam B Ch V July 2, 2013 at 5:40 PM

In my case, I have given surrender request on 1st Nov., 2012 on self-care portal. Nothing happened upto 17th Nov., 2012. The complaint was escalated to Chairman, BSNL, ass well as to Public Grievance (DOT) Site, CGM, Chennai Telephones, Telephone Advisory Committee etc. etc. since 13th Sept.,2012. Bills are raised by computer and no one in BSNL Chennai Telephones to feed defective phone and broadband (Example: Totally 24 days out in October, 2012). I sopped my payments as they are non-responsive, ultimately the telephone services were terminated. Till today I have not received details of revised bills.
BSNL Chennai Telephones has got a lot of staff, websites etc. but nothing works.

The information posted on this blog is really helpful. The Closure Form provided here is not available anywhere else and there is no other place where you can find this information.
Thanks a lot.

I have allready surrendered my bsnl broad band connection but receiving bill for that what to do now?

Mruthunjaya September 6, 2013 at 1:23 PM

Cancelling the connection, the line will be almost dead 5 days in a week and every week end i have raise the complaint and get it resolved.

martincad September 9, 2013 at 10:07 AM

It is beyond description the amount I have suffered since BSNL installed a land line and internet modem at my house. Either the server is down or the cable from my house to the telephone pole is broken (because there are almost 10 joints) or the modem is not functioning and has to be changed. Every time the man comes to repair or even see the problem i become a little poorer. It is with much sadness i write this letter because if BSNL does not wake up then it will be eaten up.

Raman September 22, 2013 at 8:19 PM

Thanks, i couldn’t find the form anywhere on BSNL Website.

Surrendered my connection in March 2013 and still waiting for the deposit back.

I did send the surrender form attested by local exchange officer to site Exachange Officer in Chennai (Guindy), however no letter/cheque so far from BSNL on my deposit return. In online portal it shows that a credit of 1400 in my account (minus 1400).

Any other means of chasing them? i have sent all the originals to these guys and waiting for a very long period.

(It is also possible that Zynga’s chosen advertising network is to blame if we consider the case of the New York Times’
website which suffered similarly in 2009). That is particularly true if
they begin to beat such games. It is a platform used by hundreds
of millions of people and this amazing potential can be used for
business as well.

BSNL service for Customers is really going down…Its not a good sign for BSNL.
They are loosing their customers in a drastic manner. I m one among the affected customer.

Reema December 17, 2013 at 3:08 AM

Thank you so much for sharing this,

I am tired of complaining & getting no resolution. The linesmen ask for bribe too on top of everything. As of my paying my bills isn’t enough reason to provide me with service!
