It Takes 45 Days To Add One Phone Number To A Database

How long, in your opinion, does it take to add a phone number to a database? What if I told you that it takes a full 45 (forty-five) days? Yeah. Forty-five. That’s how long it will take for your phone number to reflect in TRAI’s (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) spanking new India-wide Do Not […]

Know Your Rights: Banks Should Compulsorily Furnish A Copy Of The Loan Agreement

In a recent notification, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has noted that

It is understood that some banks are furnishing a copy of the loan agreement only on request made by the borrowers. In this connection, we advise that not furnishing a copy of the loan agreement or enclosures quoted in the loan agreement is […]

Mutual Funds: We Don’t Know If We’ll Perform As Well In Future, But Give Us Your Money Anyway

From an ad by HDFC Mutual Fund:

How to choose a mutual fund.

Step 1. Check past performance
Step 2. Check past performance
Step 3. Check past performance

The ad then goes on to say,

Past performance may or may not be sustained in the future.

How’s that for a catch? It’s as good as saying “Handover your [hard earned] money and […]

Sound Advise: Free Your Thoughts From Bullet Points

Richard Rumelt, a professor of strategy at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, in an interview with the McKinsey Quarterly says:

If I had my way, small [strategy] groups would be absolutely prohibited from doing PowerPoint presentations! Using bullet points so much drives out thinking. One of the nice features of PowerPoint is how fast you […]

Bad Jargon: Why You Shouldn’t Read S&P’s Reports

The prevalence of mark-to-market accounting, credit-default swaps, and other tools of modern finance allow risk to be repriced quickly as conditions change. This rapid repricing, paradoxically, tends to aggravate short-term instability. But drawing attention to problems as they emerge forces managers to restructure troubled portfolios or entities before dangers can reach explosive proportions and threaten […]

Adhyatma Chintane - Issue #16: The Meaning of the Word “Vasudeva”

Today we will learn the meaning of the word Vasudeva. This is one of the most beautiful meanings I have learnt so far.
