Dengue and Chikungunya are viral diseases spread by the Aedes mosquito. Prevent breeding of mosquitoes and protect yourself from mosquito bites by:

  • Covering all water tanks and containers with tight lids
  • Emptying and drying water containers and coolers at least once a week before refilling
  • Destroying all unused junk, tyres, coconut shells etc.
  • Wearing full-sleeved clothing to cover the body, using mosquito nets (preferably insecticide treated ones), and repellents

Recognizing symptoms:

High fever with joint and muscular pain, nausea, skin rash, and fatigue.

Is there a cure?

There are no specific medicines or vaccines for Dengue and Chikungunya. Paracetamol can be used to reduce symptoms. Aspirin should be avoided. Consult immediately at the nearest health center.

Issued in public interest by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
