Unless you have had a multi-layer state-of-the-art spam defense system in place to scan your e-mails, the chances that you would have received an e-mail from a Nigerian (or other Afrikaans in general) offering you astronomical sums of money in exchange for your bank account number are close to 100%. Affectionately, this scam is referred to as the “419 Fraud” (Four-One-Nine) after the relevant section of the Criminal Code of Nigeria.
