What was the motivation behind this article?
I have been paying my AirTel mobile bills through ECS facility from the past two years. There has never been a late payment, ever. Because I will no longer have the savings account that is linked to the ECS facility, I approached AirTel to get it canceled. Imagine my shock when the customer representative coolly said, “Sir, we will charge you five-hundred rupees for that.” My mind blanked for a few seconds. Five-hundred rupees to cancel! The customer rep further went on to say that the five-hundred rupees would be taken as a security deposit, and which could be adjusted against future bills. I had had enough. I told him “No, thank you. I will cancel my connection. Could you please tell me the procedure to do that?”
And today, I have it canceled.

How can they charge 500/- to just cancel the ECS facilty??
Which package of Airtel you where using?
Will they refund the initial deposit paid during taking the connection?

I recently got my airtel connection cancelled. But all i did was go to thier office and tal kto the rep who made me fill up a small form and gave me a receipt then and there. No bills, nothing.
Personally I feel Hutch is better, anyway the template would save sometime regardless of the sevice provider.
I am on prepaid since 4 years, which suits my needs perfectly well.
Whenever, I get a call from airtel asking to shift to postpaid, i ask them the additional advantage ie., why I must pay additional deposits for STD/ISD etc., and convert to postpaid, when I already have it now. I get silence as reply and no such calls for a brief period of time.
BTB, the BLOCK sms works.
My mobile life is peaceful.

i went to costomer care(city center,kolkata) to get my connection surrendered..
but they say”"”we donot have a power to cancel the connection,, we only give connection”"”..what should i do ,..i donot know..

I took Airtel postpaid connection when I went to chennai and join a corporate office for plan 199. But I came back to hyderabad because of some unavoidable conditions. I want to cancel the postpaid connection.
I have mailed to aes.chennai@airtel.in address, but i didn’t get any response from them. Please suggest how to cancel it. I don’t have any latest mobile bills with me.

Airtel postpaid s**ks. it was the worst postpaid connection, i ever used and now when i asked them to cancel the account, all i am getting is the same message that Mr. Ankur Gupta got. They didnt have the power to cancel my subscription. I went to their main office at cochin ( some 200 kms away frm my home at trivandrum and the response i got was t wait for 3 hours as they were all busy. All i could see was some reps chatting on their phone. The bills were never transparent. Got bills for calls made to numbers i didnt even heard of!! SO MY ADVICE TO ALL… NEVER TAKE AIRTEL POSTPAID.
Some TIPS to cancel Airtel Postpaid connection:
Yes you need some tips to do that since Airtel don’t have a cancellation feature in their application. So here are the step for various scenarios-
Scenario-1 : Cancel a Airtel Post Paid with ECS facility
1. Cancel your credit card itself since the banks are helpless in cancelling the ECS being given to Airtel. Dunno why if they can block the cheque given to someone. Also Airtel charges 300 Rs as of now to cancel the ECS facility.
2. Now Call up Airtel Customer care and register a complaint saying you want to cancel the connection and note the complaint number. Actual process of giving hand written copy, send mail to 121 etc to Airtel is waste of your time and energy.
3. Thats it !!
Scenario-2 : Cancel a Airtel Post Paid without ECS facility
1. Perform the Step-2 mentioned above.

Never go for ECS. I had this bitter experience a year ago. they put some Rs. 1000 extra to my last bill(after cancellation) and credited my account. so never opt for ECS as you ll loose your voice in arguement for false billing.

I have a Airtel connection for last few months, but I didnt request IDD facility. But on last month they sent me an IDD bill. I reported them and asked them to settle my bill, but they called me and said that I have taken all those calls. But I dont know the owner of that number as well I have not requested any IDD connectivity.
This is the way of Airtel. I think all Indians are same.
Anyway I am gonna cancel my connection by tomorrow.
