One of my resolutions for 2006 is to learn martial arts - at least some of it. Since my Fitness One membership comes with a complementary month of Aerobics, Yoga, and Martial Arts, I decided to kick-start my resolution today. Today’s class was scheduled to begin at 09:00. I walked-in to find one guy lecturing […]

The recent proposal by the government to enforce reservation in private educational institutions is utterly nonsensical. Instead of abolishing the existing system of reservation, the government now wants to make it more widespread. The other day I read an article in the Indian Express in which the author had put in the right words, my […]
At the end of a strenuous three-day sixty-kilometre trek through wild terrain, our group of thirteen experienced bliss: steaming cups of deliciously flavored elaichi tea and hot masala omlettes. Twenty-six cups of tea and sixteen omlettes. The omlettes disappeared even before I could take out my camera.
Actually, I was back in Bangalore yesterday morning. Did nothing but sleep the whole day - the after effects of the 60km trek that ended with leech bites. Stay tuned for some delicious posts.
Bhelpuri, Pav Bhaji, and Vada Pav - $2 per serving, at a “little Indian store” in the US.
As promised, the first exhibit on Indian food as it appears in the United States of America. Certainly looks yummy!
Thanks a million, Kimi.
If you’ve been listening in on Radio City 91 FM, chances are you would have heard the latest ICICI Bank advertisement. The ad goes something like this (non-verbatim):
“Attention all NRIs. Just walk-in to the nearest ICICI bank branch, open an account, and collect your free gift. Gifts as per RBI guidelines.”
Just assume for a moment […]
I have written previously about the sufferings experienced by a BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus. (Read the original article.) Today’s Indian Express carried an article on the same topic. Excerpts from the article:

The story of protests in Bangalore seems to be […]
2005, the year in which I made a resolution to keep up all my resolutions! (Venkatesh a.k.a Koratagere, I hope you are reading this.) Approaching 2006, it’s now time to look back in time. So, what exactly were these resolutions and how have I fared in keeping them?

Yes. That was my identification number at the Bangalore marathon. I participated in the 5 kilometre “Run Bangalore” event and crossed the finish line in about 50 odd minutes – somewhere in the middle of the pack.
The route:
3/4 of a lap inside the Kanteerava stadium, out through Gate 3, through Kasturabha road, a left at […]
This is what I will be doing during Christmas: a 60 kilometre trek from Kodaikanal to Munnar over a period of three days and two nights. This trek is being organized by Nature Admire.
What do you think would be a cool logo for this blog?
GEO 12.97 ° N 77.56 ° E will shortly exhibit Indian cuisine as it appears in the US. I have managed to convince Kimi, who lives in the US, but is originally from India, to be the onsite photographer. Lucky for me that she happens to love Indian food - bhel puri, pav bhaji, samosa […]

It all started with this lengthy e-mail I sent to a good friend, and, in which I had described my experiences in setting up a Wireless LAN at home. Her simple response was:
“Hey, Congratulations on that! So what is that you can do now, which you couldn’t have done otherwise?”
There I was, stunned, and without […]
Fitness One: One-day workout pass
Published by December 13th, 2005 in The Bangalore Blog. 3 CommentsI have three one-day workout passes that can be used at Fitness One, Jayanagar. A pass entitles you to a free workout at Fitness One, Jayanagar (not sure if the pass can be used at the Koramangala and Indiranagar centres) with an instructor to show you the ropes. Let me know if you are seriously […]

Are you an Airtel user bombarded with SMSs and automated voice calls every day? Then all you need to do is send “BLOCK” to 222 from your mobile. I don’t recall Airtel ever having publicized this for whatever reasons, but I got pissed off with their recent ads and called them […]
A possible conversation at an American company:
John

“Say Mike, do you know where all our jobs are going now?”
Mike

“Ummm…aaah…Ben-gaa-loo-ruu.”

Yep. That’s Dharam Singh’s plan to pull wool over the world’s eyes.

Published by December 12th, 2005 in Technology and The Bangalore Blog. 0 CommentsSony, as always, had an amazing range of products on display. The Vaio laptops are simply out-of-this-world. The prices too are out-of-this-world. The Microsoft stall was the most crowded. Thanks to the XBOX.
